Preparing for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

  About the Program

Virginia Tech is pleased to present Preparing for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, in Roanoke, Virginia, home of the Engagement Academy for University Leaders, endorsed by AASCU, CUMU, and APLU. This unique executive development program is designed for leaders and teams responsible for developing institutional capacity for community engagement and preparing for the application process.

The 2015 application for the Carnegie Community Engagement classification provides campuses with the opportunity to develop institutional capacity for growth and assessment of community engagement. Individuals and teams will be oriented to the Carnegie framework, have access to samples of exemplary applications, receive coaching from faculty and have time to develop plans for accessing and providing evidence to support an application. Participants will return to campus with a plan for advancing the community engagement mission of their campus, and ways to connect the process associated with the Carnegie application to other aspects of institutional work.

Program Features:

  • Institutional case studies
  • Peer networking and benchmarking opportunities
  • Action planning tips, tools, and techniques
  • Access to the latest research, models, and strategies in institutional and community engagement
  • Return to campus with an assessment plan, a framework for the application process, and an action plan for completing the application
  • Coaching sessions with leaders in the field
